Gottlieb Wilhelm Daimler, born in Germany in 1834, was an engineer, industrial designer, and entrepreneur. Daimler is recognized as one of the pioneers in what we today call the 'Internal Combustion Engine', the type of engine that helped to turn cars into practical vehicles. The petrol engine he invented is considered to be the pioneer of petrol engines.
In 1872 Daimler joined the auto company in Cologne, Germany, and his friend Wilhelm Mabel joined him. Nikolaus Otto was a pioneer in another car world. Nicholas Auto was the technical director at the time, and Daimler was appointed technical director. Daimler and Auto were involved in the development of petrol engine technology, and Maybach became the Chief Designer.
